Bologna

History, myth and legend

There are various legends about the birth of Bologna Some attribute its foundation Ocno Umbria, Umbria from the Etruscan Auleste put to flight, who founded a village where now stands Bologna, and later still driven by the Etruscans.
Another story speaks of Felsina, a descendant of another Ocno (but Etruscan, also called Bianor, the legendary founder of Plateau, Parma and Mantua, which also speaks Virgil), which gave the city its name subsequently changed his son Bono in Bononia.
Perhaps there is some truth in all these legends but the most fascinating is certainly one that tells of the Etruscan king Iron: from Ravenna and landed on the plain between the rivers and Aposa Ravon, Iron and Men in the following began to build huts but the unknown land of dense vegetation and in a great location.
The village is expanded around a river (the Aposa that today still flows in the basement of Bologna) and one day, to connect the two banks at the current Via Farini near Piazza Minghetti Iron built a bridge Iron Bridge (sometimes mistakenly remembered as iron bridge, located at Via Farini today probably square Calderini). But one day Aposa lover of Iron, was overwhelmed by a flood of the river while he was reaching the home of Iron inland and hidden his body was never found. Since then the river took the name of the woman, Aposa.
The village grew and Iron decided to protect it with a wall and, although old, he worked construction. During the work on a hot summer day, the daughter of Iron handed his father a bowl of water provided that gave its name to Iron City. Fero agreed and kept his promise, by which time the city took the name of his daughter, Felsina.

Bologna today

Bologna is one of the most interesting cities of Europe, the symbolic city of Emilia Romagna with its beautiful old town and its ancient universities.
Bologna is also called a city of arcades: just over 38 km in the city center, arcades through which you can easily reach all major points of interest.
Bologna is in fact a beautiful city of art, rich in historical places and monuments, first of all The Two Towers, and that of Asinelli Garisenda, undisputed symbol of the city, these two towers were built around the twelfth century as defensive outposts. Another wonderful place to visit is the Piazza Maggiore, founded about 1200, and is bluntly political and the civic center of Bologna.
Bologna is also the city of churches, and, having been for many centuries, the second city after Rome Papal State, is characterized by a high number of religious buildings of great historical and architectural interest: St. Peter,
the Archbishop of Bologna, Saint Petronius dedicated to the patron saint of the city, the Basilica of San Luca, considered a symbol of the city, the Church of St. Francis, St. Stephen's Basilica and many others, a visit to contemplate their beauty is a must!
Another fascinating attraction is represented by more than 40 museums all over the area see the National Art Gallery, with works by Carracci, Giotto, Vitale da Bologna, Raphael, Guido Reni, the Archaeological Museum with its exhibits of Roman, Etruscan and prehistoric and one of the most important Egyptian collections in Europe, the Medieval Museum, MAMbo the new Museum of Modern Art and many others.
Bologna is not only history and culture but is also synonymous with high-class shopping and buying, with its dozens of fashion shops, jewelers, bookstores, art galleries, antique shops etc. ... is in fact the world renowned Galleria Cavour, where it counts the most renowned shops such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Gucci, Fendi and many more.
